#25 Expose the mind in a variety of settings. Change is inevitable, but change is good. It happens all the time. Babies grow, new buildings are constructed and even mobile phones keep on upgrading every now and then. People sometimes don’t accept it because they’re used to their current routines and don’t want to experience another adjustment which means they’re back at zero, but what they do not know is that changing the environment keeps the brain properly stimulated.
Make it a fun habit to seek out for some adventure. Who knows? What one might find may actually be far better than the things he just normally see or hear every single day. Choices and options are always presented. Don’t be easily satisfied and just stick to things one already identifies with. Be like a student who just finished high school and will now enter college which will be entirely a different world or someone who left his current job to accept a much better offer from another company. This way, one gives himself the opportunity to learn more and stuff all of those new information in the brain which can be helpful in the future.
Explore. Get lost.(Not literally!) Find a new route when going to work. Eat a new restaurant. Change the arrangement of things inside the house. Open the mind for more possibilities.
#26 Ask questions frequently. It is, indeed, undeniable that the world would never ever run out of questions and answers. As days continue to pass by, more exciting things need to be discovered, learned and done. New concepts, theories and ideas are presented to think about. What could be the purpose of a building currently under construction? Why do people cry over a celebrity? How does a newly released gadget differ from the rest?
One phenomenal way to keep the brain in shape is to ask questions. Make it a habit of questioning or interrogating people and what’s on their mind (although do moderate it such that you won’t lose your friends or scare people off!). Asking about something is a great way to build up brainpower. It generates new thoughts and ideas. Instead of absorbing and taking in everything that’s already obvious about a certain thing, question it. Is the product safe? What benefits does it have? How can it be of great use? A person forces his brain to be innovative and create new ideas by being curious and searching for answers to everything. Yes, curiosity may have killed the cat, but what’s more important is that none of things people see today will actually be there if it wasn’t for the curiosity of people which later on made them act based upon their thoughts.
Don’t be afraid to ask some queries when one seeks for some answers. Feel free to ask whatever it is that comes to mind. People don’t bite. Practice the art of questioning even if it’s only in the mind.
#27 Self-awareness is important. It’s hard when one doesn’t know what he did or what happened because he wasn’t able to control himself. Take time to know certain limitations of the body. A person must always be aware of everything he does and really think things over before immediately acting out on them. This may not seem important, but it really is. It boosts one’s brainpower.
Knowing oneself better can prevent the usual effects of ego and emotion in terms of rational thinking. Rational thinking kicks in when a person learns to let go of the ego-driven and emotional aspects of life. It allows one to become self-aware to the point that he can make already make better decisions in the future and achieve optimal brain health.
It is important for a person to be able to watch himself in explaining things, arguing or debating about a specific topic with someone. Try doing activities such as meditation, self-hypnosis and introspection to allow improvement regarding self-awareness.
#28 Drink red wine. Found some time within a busy schedule to unwind at a bar and drink with
friends or simply have a fine drink to go with a fabulous dinner recipe? Actually, alcohol is not entirely bad for the health but there really are people who have low tolerance when it comes to alcohol intake. They easily get dizzy and lose themselves giving them some hangover when they wake up the next morning. Just learn how to control that drinking problem. As a matter of fact, drinking beverages mixed with alcohol has been proven to be good for the brain. One reason is because it is rich in antioxidants in which the chemicals can actually protect the brain.
Drinking red wine in particular and in moderation is beneficial to the brain. It consists of antioxidants that can help the cells of the brain. Remember that one glass daily for women and two for men is usually considered a safe and moderate amount.
#29 Inhale and exhale. When problems start to overflow and cloud the mind with negative thoughts resulting to stress, anxiety or frustration, just sit back, try to relax and breathe. Don’t let the mind be suffocated with so much worries and troubles lingering all over it. Shove it all away, be calm and think about positive things instead.
Deep breathing is said to increase to the brain’s oxygen level and blood flow. Do some deep breathing daily for about 10-15 minutes and see how it can truly make a huge difference in the brain’s functioning potential as well as the quality of your life.
More air circulating inside the body means more oxygen in the blood and therefore, in the brain too. The diaphragm is used more when breathing through the nose drawing air deeper into the lungs. Several deep breaths help you to relax and allow you to think more clearly. Feeling life’s pressure right now? Close those eyes, think of nothing and just breathe.
#30 Meditate. One doesn’t always have to go out and exert all the body’s energy just to keep the mind from being distracted and to get rid of depressing thoughts. A simple meditation is all that’s needed to relax the brain. Shut the eyes and start paying attention while breathing.
Tensing up the muscles a little bit and then relaxing them for a start may help. Always bring back one’s attention to his breathing when the mind suddenly starts wandering around. Doing this for about 5-10 minutes will absolutely cause the body to relax, clear the mind and make the person more ready to face any mental task ahead.
Meditation has been proven to increase a person’s IQ and relieve stress. It also promotes higher levels of brain functioning. It activates the area of the brain that’s responsible for the advanced thinking ability and performance. Stress just kills one’s ability to use the brain effectively including the brain’s overall health and meditating helps reduce it. Besides, one doesn’t need worry about dressing up to do some meditation.
These are some of the exercises one can do to maintain the sharpness and freshness of the mind. There are still more ways that can be practised to lessen one’s burden.
Few Things to Keep in Mind (pun intended)
The brain is as equally important as all the other parts of the human body. Just imagine when all of a sudden, it doesn’t want to function any more The whole body and even one’s existence would totally be useless and worthless for it is entirely responsible for some of the most essential and interesting things only the human body can do.
Every minute and every second of the day, the brain is put into use and one must not take memory loss lightly for there will come a time when a person would hardly remember everything and forget the most memorable moment in one’s life.
Memory seems to get worse as people grow old. As the body age, so does the brain but it doesn’t necessarily have to. Before it’s too late and time runs out, think about how essential is the human brain. Take a few minutes to do some mind exercises. Always remember that it is very important to always have a sound mind and sound body. Stay smart!
