The 6 Best Breakup Songs

It’s not you, it’s me.

I’m sorry but I don’t think this is working.

I fell in love with somebody else.

Alright, so the two of you broke up. It doesn’t matter who broke up with whom, but a breakup is always painful.  There could be other emotions, but separation always causes varying degrees of pain.

Instead of (or aside from?) turning to a pint of sinfully delicious ice cream or bars of wickedly luscious chocolate, let it all out and cry as these songs play in the background. Get in your jammies, prepare your rolls of tissue, and give out that one loud cry before you pick up the pieces of your heart. Nope, we didn’t include any Taylor Swift’s songs.

1. Here Comes The…  by Butch Walker featuring P!nk

“Here comes the heartache / The move out day / Excuses for my friends

Here comes the reasons I have to justify / It’s better in the end

Here comes the last time I’m gonna kiss you / The first night sleeping alone

Here comes the hardest thing / We’ve ever known…”

Why we like it: The time leading up to the final goodbye is simply torture! The last kiss, the last touch, the last look… This is just plain heartbreaking because you know you’ll never have another moment like it with your partner. The last moment with your partner is the most painful and the first moment without him is the hardest thing.

2. Forget You by Cee Lo Green

“I see you driving ‘round town

With the girl I love and I’m like,

Forget you!”

Why we like it: Yes, this is the clean version. The song is very simple and straight to the point – your ex already has a partner! Plus, the tune is pretty upbeat, it always put a smile on my face.

3. End of The Road by Boyz II Men

“Said we’d be forever

Said it’d never die

How could you love me and leave and never

Say goodbye?”

Why we like it: Broken promises. The promise of forever became the promise of never ever. It is this great promise that makes us cling to a relationship until forever comes to an end.

4. Wide Awake by Katy Perry

“Falling from cloud 9

Crashing from the high

I’m letting go tonight

(Yeah I’m) Falling from cloud 9…”

Why we like it: Love is blind, and breakup (not marriage) is the eye opener.  How could you not notice that his extreme attention to you, which you thought is too much devotion, is because he is an insecure, needy guy?

5. Tonight I Wanna Cry by Keith Urban

“I’ve never been the kind to ever let my feelings show

And I thought that bein’ strong meant never losin’ your self-control

But I’m just drunk enough to let go of my pain

To hell with my pride, let it fall like rain

From my eyes

Tonight I wanna cry…”

Why we like it: First, Keith Urban is a gorgeous, sexy and amazing guy to spend a heartbreaking moment with. Second, throw away your ex’s picture and replace it with Keith’s.  Third, it’s an honest song and sometimes pride keeps us from getting in touch with what we really feel. Tonight you want to cry and you will cry!

6.  Against All Odds by Phil Collins

“So take a look at me now – well, there’s just an empty space

And there’s nothing left here to remind me – just the memory of your face

Take a look at me now, well, there’s just an empty space

And you coming back to me is against the odds and that’s what I’ve got to face…”

Why we like it: Part of the moving on process is, ironically, holding on. This ballad tugs at the heart and is hopeful and hopeless at the same time.

Bonus Track: I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor

“Oh no, not I. I will survive
Oh as long as I know how to love I know I’ll stay alive;
I’ve got all my life to live,
I’ve got all my love to give and I’ll survive,
I will survive. Hey hey…”

Why we like it: It’s the anthem of the broken-hearted! After all the tears, pain, frustration, anger and false hopes, we know that we all survive from breakups. Cry and then move on!
